Judge rejects Montelongo's lawsuit against Peoria County Election Commission

A gavel rests on a judge's bench in a blurry courtroom. The text "WCBU Courts" sits on top of that photo.

A Peoria County judge has thrown out a lawsuit former Peoria mayoral candidate Jim Montelongo filed against the Peoria County Election Commission for alleged mishandling of some ballots.

Judge David Brown rejected the civil lawsuit earlier this week.

Montelongo conceded the election he lost by 43 votes to Rita Ali, but sued the election commission over its storage and counting procedures for mail-in and dropped-off ballots.

Election commission executive director Tom Bride says his office follows all state laws.
