An Oquawka man is dead after a dump truck was struck early Friday morning by a semi on Interstate 474 in Tazewell County.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said the accident happened on eastbound I-474, a mile east of the Creve Coeur/Pekin exit. Illinois State Police said the dump truck was stopped on the interstate when the semi rear-ended it.

The driver of the dump truck, 72-year-old Lawrence Dooley, was flown to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was later pronounced dead.

The eastbound lanes of I-474 were closed for around seven hours on Friday for the crash investigation.

Harwood said Dooley suffered severe internal injuries in the crash. Toxicology results is pending.
