A Galesburg teenager is dead after she was struck by a train on Wednesday evening.
Galesburg Police Chief Russ Idle says 15-year-old Katie Ackerson was found dead in a drainage ditch in the 400 block of W. Whitesboro, near a railroad crossing.
She reportedly walked around the lowered railroad gates after a train had passed, but was struck by another train as she walked onto another set of tracks.
Idle says the Galesburg community is "saddened by this horrific tragedy."
