Yellow police tape stretches across a blurry crime scene. It says "Police Line Do Not Cross." The text "WCBU Police and Fire" lays on top of that photo.

A Peoria police officer is in stable condition after he was shot responding to a large fight early Sunday morning.

Peoria Police Sgt. Amy Dotson said the officer stopped in the 600 block of NE Adams around 12:15 a.m. when he saw a large group fighting at Adams and Green. The officer heard gunfire and called it into dispatch.

As he was getting out of his vehicle, Dotson said he was struck in the leg by gunfire. His vehicle was also possibly struck. Dotson said the officer didn't return fire.

The officer was taken to the hospital by first responders. Another man was also taken to the hospital from the area via private vehicle with a non life-threatening gunshot wound.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Peoria Police at (309) 673-4521 or CrimeStoppers, anonymously, at (309) 673-9000.
