Peoria Mayoral Discovery Recount Delayed Until May 10

The Peoria mayoral election discovery recount is postponed until May 10.

That recount was originally supposed to happen Tuesday morning. But Peoria County Election Commission Executive Director Tom Bride said the delay was necessary after Jim Montelongo's representatives requested additional information which wasn't readily available.

Montelongo, the outgoing 4th District councilmember, lost to at-large councilmember Rita Ali by just 43 votes in the final tally. The discovery recount process has no bearing on Ali's swearing-in ceremony at a special Peoria City Council meeting on Tuesday evening. But the recount results could be used by Montelongo if he formally contests the election results in court later.

WCBU will broadcast the special council meeting live on 89.9 FM and online at WCBU.org.
