Bradley University, Illinois Central College Implementing Mask Requirements

Starting Aug. 9, Bradley University will require masks in all indoor spaces regardless of vaccination status.

That's in accordance with new CDC guidance issued as the COVID-19 Delta variant becomes more widespread. Delta is believed to be more contagious than previous variants, and that vaccinated people can spread it as easily as the unvaccinated.

Masks are encouraged — but not required — outdoors for the unvaccinated. Students don't need to wear a mask in their private rooms, and faculty and staff can unmask in private offices.

The university is strongly encouraging, but not requiring, vaccinations. Those who haven't submitted proof of vaccination will be part of the campus COVID-19 testing program.

Illinois Central College in East Peoria also is implementing a universal mask mandate inside its campus buildings for both unvaccinated and vaccinated people.

Peoria County is currently considered an area of "substantial" COVID-19 risk.
