The Foster Gallery at Peoria First United Methodist Church is pleased to exhibit Bloodlines: A Family Affair, Artwork by sculptor/painter Preston Jackson (father), photographer Natalie Jackson (daughter), and watercolorist Alice Y. Traore (daughter).
This exhibition explores the familial bond of father-to-daughters through visual art. Some legacies are tangible objects, while others materialize as values, principles, and actions. This exhibit represents a legacy of art—a precious gift a father has passed along to his daughters. For this family of artists, the gift of art is a home-base they return to and consider a mighty connector.

On Tuesday, September 27th, at 6:00 p.m. central time, the LaSalle Public Library will virtually host Artist and Art Historian, Laura Mueller, for her presentation, “Depicting the Divine, Part II.”
What does the divine look like in female form? A corn plant, a cat, the morning star, the moon, an eye – goddesses don’t always take the form of a beautiful woman. But when they do, you may find them the most loyal of wives or the most profligate, the Lady of the Beasts or the divine Huntress, the all-Merciful One or Vengeance incarnate. In this virtual program, Laura Mueller will find commonalities in the very diverse religious art of many different cultures. This program is the second part of exploring religious art.
To view Part I, go to the Library’s virtual program archive at – https://lasalle.lib.il.us/virtualprograms.
Laura Mueller worked for the Art Institute’s Department of Museum Education from 1987 to 2017. She has taught courses in literature and art history at local colleges. Laura has been an Art Institute study leader on several of their trips to Europe, including Adriatic Odyssey, Holland and Belgium, the prehistoric caves of France. She holds a B.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an M.A. from the University of Chicago in Comparative Literature; she has also studied art with NYU in Venice, Italy.
The program is free and open to the public. Registration is necessary. To register, use the following link: https://bit.ly/3Lpa01W. For more information about the program, please call the Library at 815-223-2341.
