David Greene Returns for Benefit Book Signing Saturday Nov. 8th at I Know You Like a Book

Mark your calendar: on Saturday, November 8th at 5:00 p.m., I Know You Like a Book in Peoria Heights is hosting a very special event with David Greene, host of NPR's Morning Edition. Greene will be signing copies of his new book, "Midnight in Siberia," describing his train journey into the heart of Russia. Refreshments will be provided.

As his two-and-a-half-year post as NPR's Moscow bureau chief came to an end, Greene decided to chase one final story. Together with Sergei, his translator, co-producer, and closest friend in Russia, Greene rode the Trans-Siberian Railway across the country, a 6,000 mile journey, from Moscow to the Pacific port of Vladivostok-to speak with ordinary Russians about how their lives have changed in the post-Soviet years.

Copies of Greene's book will be available for purchase at the book signing.

The travelers he met on the train and in the dozens of small towns that line the railroad revealed to him a different side of Russia, a quieter, contemplative side but also a florid, romantic side. Historically, the Trans-Siberian has meant many things to Russia: a testament to its engineering ingenuity, a means for deporting Stalin's dissenters, and now a top-tier travel destination on par with the Orient Express. The railway is a fixture for all Russians. Some pay the equivalent of $20,000 for a luxury cabin, while others save up $200 dollars for the upper berth in third-class.

This book signing is a fundraising event to support Peoria Public Radio. Reservations are not required, but feel free to call the store if you would like them to hold a book for you.
