Two Peoria men were arrested this week in connection with the Oct. 6 murder of 17-year-old Jerry Snipes, Jr.

Police arrested 18-year-old Jeremy Moore of Peoria in the 800 block of S. Western Ave on Wednesday for unlawful possession of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a firearm. He was later also arrested for first degree murder.

On Thursday, police arrested 19-year-old Gary Irby III for first degree murder in connection with the same case. He's currently at the Peoria County Jail on unrelated charges.

Snipes, a Manual High School student, was found by officers near Linn and Corrington earlier this month following a ShotSpotter alert. He later died from gunshot wounds.

Peoria is experiencing a record-setting year for homicides, with 27 on record so far in 2021.
