Many voters in Western states are frustrated with the news media's practice of reporting election numbers while the election is still underway. In Tuesday's election, media outlets declared that President Clinton was the winner of the Presidential race, even though polls were still open in Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska and Hawaii. Commentator Alan Siporin says that the current method of voting should be replaced by mail-in ballots which can all be opened and counted on election day.
