Missing 15-year-old boy's body recovered from rural Roanoke pond

An ambulance with its lights on. The text "WCBU Police and Fire" is laid on top of that photo.

A teenager is dead after disappearing Sunday afternoon in a rural Roanoke pond.

Woodford County Chief Deputy Dennis Tipsword said the 15-year-old Washington teen had jumped from a trampoline into the pond. Others in the group reported him missing at 5:15 p.m. after noticing he was gone.

The Secor Fire Department, Woodford County search and rescue team, and Hudson underwater dive team searched the ground and water for hours before suspending the search Sunday night.

The search resumed around daybreak Monday. The teen's body was recovered from the pond by divers around 11 a.m.

The Woodford County Coroner's Office and Woodford County Sheriff's Office are investigating.
