State Health Care Chief who Led Medicaid Change is Leaving

The director of the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services is leaving her role for a job in the private sector.

Gov. Bruce Rauner confirmed that Director Felicia Norwood will step down June 15. Norwood will become executive vice president of the for-profit health care company Anthem.

She spent 20 years at the insurance company Aetna before becoming head of Family Services in 2015.

Norwood led the state's expansion of its cost-cutting managed care program in favor of traditional Medicaid services.

Rauner says Norwood was "steadfast in her efforts to ensure the state's most vulnerable citizens have access to quality health care."

The search for her replacement is underway.
