Video: Bustos on GOP Health Care Plan from House Floor

Here's the text of her speech, supplied by her press office.

Mr. Speaker,

I worked in health care for nearly a decade – and I’ve seen up close how health care impacts the people I'm fortunate to serve. That’s why I began a short video series we call “Hear from the Heartland.”

In this, I listen to families about how Trumpcare would affect them. I’ve spoken with Anastasia and her little boy Gryphon, from Elizabeth, Illinois. Gryphon was born with cerebral palsy.

And because of Trumpcare, Gryphon’s family might not have anywhere to turn for affordable coverage – and would be at risk of reaching a lifetime insurance limit. Anastasia said it best when she told me that her son’s “pre-existing condition” was simply being born.

Whether it’s at grocery stores or small businesses, I hear it: Hardworking families are gravely concerned about Trumpcare. They want us to work together on a health care bill that will lower costs for all Americans.

But instead, Trumpcare would raise costs and rip coverage away from 23 million Americans.

It’s so bad that in the Senate, they are taking the embarrassingly sad tact of hiding their bill behind closed doors. That’s not what we were elected to do.

We owe it to kids like Gryphon to put aside partisan differences and pass a health care bill that will improve the lives of the people we serve.
