Ill. Lawmaker Who Drove for Uber Finally Gets Paid

One Illinois state lawmaker who resorted to driving an Uber to make ends meet is relieved he’ll start getting his state paycheck on time.

That’s because a judge recently ruled that Illinois’ comptroller can no longer delay paying legislators.

State Representative Jaime Andrade represents Chicago’s northwest side.

He - and every other lawmaker - received no pay for months because the comptroller delayed legislative salaries due to the budget impasse.

Andrade says banks weren’t giving him loans because he didn’t have any income except from Uber.

"I had life insurance policies that had cash value. I’ve had to ask some friends to borrow me money," Andrade said.

Andrade says for all the inconvenience he went through - stalling legislative pay didn’t do anything to resolve the budget impasse.
