Illinois' Lisa Madigan is among more than a dozen attorneys general who are speaking out against Republican President Donald Trump's executive order on immigration. Madigan and the others issued a statement condemning the Friday order, which restricts refugees and immigration.
His order temporarily suspends all immigration for citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries for 90 days. Madigan and the other attorneys general called the order un-American and unlawful. They said they're confident the courts will strike down Trump's order.
The statement from the attorneys general says they're committed to make sure as few people as possible suffer from the "chaotic situation" that the order created. They also say they will fight the unconstitutional order to preserve our nation's national security and core values. Madigan is a Democrat.
