Weather Forces Delay of Illinois Ski Competition

FOX RIVER GROVE, Ill. (AP) - Organizers of a ski jumping competition in northern Illinois have had to postpone the event for the first time in more than a century.

The weather is too warm and rainy to hold this year's Norge Ski Club's Ski Jumping Championship in Fox River Grove. This weekend would have been the 112th championship competition.

Members made the decision on Tuesday night, citing a forecast of 57 degrees on Saturday and 46 on Sunday with rain. The new dates will be Feb. 11-12.

Spokesman Charlie Sedivec calls it a very tough and emotional decision to postpone. But he says the rain will make it hard for spectators and competitors to see. He also says the snow condition is horrible.
