Rauner: Obamacare Replacement Needed

Governor Bruce Rauner said Wednesday he is opposed to a repeal of Obamacare  without a replacement. It’s a rare comment from the governor about national politics.

He didn’t utter the name TRUMP in public until after the election. But, two days before the President-Elect assumes office, Rauner told reporters he doesn’t think a repeal of Obamacare by itself would work.

He also spoke out against changing Medicaid into a block-grant program, something U-S House Speaker Paul Ryan has supported, and Trump’s nominee for Health Secretary, Tom Price.

“Illinois is not well-positioned if they do that. Illinois has been mismanaged on its Medicaid program for years. We’re trying to fix it but we’ve only been at it for two years and it takes a while.”

He said earlier this month he will not be attending Friday’s inauguration in Washington, so he could focus on Illinois.
