A Springfield man has appeared in court on allegations he cheated Medicaid by filing false claims through a company that supplies incontinence products. 51-year-old Kevin Schaul pleaded not guilty in Springfield federal court to five counts of health-care fraud. A conviction on just one count carries a maximum 10-year prison term.
The indictment says Schaul ran Springfield-based Childrite Medical Supply and submitted false claims that defrauded Medicaid out of more than $500,000 over four years. He's accused of spending some of the money on travel and mortgage payments.
His attorney, D. Peter Wise, says his client will fight the charges and looks forward to his day in court. Schaul was released pending trial. The judge set a March 7 trial date.
