The Illinois Department of Agriculture is surveying Illinois State Fair attendees about what they did and didn't like about the event after attendance dropped more than 13% this year.

Department spokeswoman Rebecca Clark says that the 35-question survey started going out Friday via email. More than 80,000 people who attended the Springfield fair in August are being asked to complete the survey by Dec. 31.  Clark says this is the first survey the department has distributed online.

Participants are asked to rate the quality of the fairgrounds' appearance, exhibits, entertainment, and food, among other questions.  Clark says staff will analyze the results and work to improve the fair experience in the future.
