Duckworth, Kirk Hold Awkward Meeting After Contentious Campaign

Illinois U.S. Senator-elect Tammy Duckworth met with Mark Kirk today in an attempt to show there’s no ill will after their bruising campaign.  But the meeting was pretty awkward.  Kirk and Duckworth met at Manny’s Deli in Chicago.  There was no giant corned beef sandwich.  Just coffee for Kirk and water for Duckworth.

The two made chit chat for a while with the cameras rolling, and Kirk said he got a new dog on Election Day.

KIRK: "Sweet Pea is what we’re going to call her now."

DUCKWORTH: "Ok. That’s cute! That’s cute that’s cute"

KIRK:  "Thanks for doing this. I think this is a good tradition to start."

Duckworth then asked Kirk if he’d press Republican Senate leadership to give Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland a hearing.  Kirk says that’d be good for the country.
