October 7th Warmest on Record in Illinois

Climatologists say the average statewide temperature in Illinois last month was the seventh warmest October on record.  Illinois State Water Survey reports the average temperature for October was 59.8 degrees, 5.4 degrees above normal. 

The warmest October was in 1963 when the average hit 63.6 degrees. It goes on to say that Illinois has experienced above-normal temperatures in nine out of the 10 months of 2016. 
The average temperature for the period from January through October was 58 degrees, 2.5 degrees above normal. That also makes it the fourth warmest January through October in Illinois on record.  The warmest was in 2012 when the average was 59.1 degrees.The Illinois State Water Survey is a Division of the Prairie Research Institute of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
