Davis Withdraws Support for Trump

Republican Congressman Rodney Davis withdrew his support for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Saturday.  This came after the release of a video in which Trump described kissing and other physical contact with women without their consent.  Davis says he decided to withdraw his support after talking with his wife Shannon on Saturday.

“And it was a parental issue.  My wife and I decided that this was something that we could not continue to tell our kids that language that was used in that video was acceptable enough for presidential candidates, let alone anyone.”

Davis supported Senator Marco Rubio’s candidacy during the Republican presidential primary, but had agreed to support Trump after he won the nomination.  Davis had also agreed to serve on Trump’s agricultural advisory committee, but has asked to be removed from that group.

He says his hope is that Trump withdraws from the race, in which case he would support vice presidential candidate Mike Pence.  If Trump remains on the ballot, Davis says he will either leave his vote for president blank, or write in someone, as he says he can cannot currently support anyone on the ballot.
