Madigan calls Rauner and Trump "extreme"

Illinois Lawmakers

Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan is drawing comparisons between Governor Bruce Rauner and Donald Trump.

To kick off a week of Democratic events held by the state party – several union leaders addressed the Illinois delegation. Many of them talked about how important it is to win back the governor’s mansion in 2018.

Michael Madigan – the chairman of the state Democratic Party – has been at odds with Rauner.

MADIGAN: Bruce Rauner’s a Republican. He’s an extreme Republican. Trump and Rauner are on the extreme end of the Republican Party and I think they’re both going to be rejected by Americans and by Illinoisians.

Rauner refuses to talk about the presidential race - but has said he’d support the Republican presidential nominee.
