2 Illinois state parks close due to lack of electric, trash

dnr.state.il.us

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says Ramsey Lake State Recreation Area and Horseshoe Lake State Park are closing indefinitely.

The department says Ramsey Lake in central Illinois will close because of termination of electrical service. Horseshoe Lake in southern Illinois near Granite City will close because of termination of trash and electrical service.

The department says there's no estimate of when either site might reopen. A news release didn't say if the closures were related to the lack of a state budget.

IDNR says camping was to start May 1 at Horseshoe Lake but it won't be open that day. The department will contact those with reservations to offer refunds or other accommodations.

Those with Ramsey Lake campground and picnic shelter reservation also will receive refunds or other accommodations.
