The Illinois Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal of the murder conviction of former suburban Chicago police officer Drew Peterson. The ex-Bolingbrook sergeant is serving 38 years in prison for the bathtub drowning death of ex-wife Kathleen Savio.
The Third District Appellate Court ruled in November evidence against Peterson was sufficient to show he killed Savio, whose body was found in her suburban Chicago home. No date has been given for arguments before the Supreme Court.
Savio's death was initially ruled accidental, but the case was reopened after Peterson's fourth wife disappeared in 2007. Peterson remains a suspect in that case.
Peterson is scheduled to stand trial in May on charges he solicited an inmate to kill Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow, who prosecuted the Savio case.
