The weekend before the Illinois primary, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is telling Chicago voters that the city still faces a number of challenges. He attended the University of Chicago and protested against segregated schools in the early 1960s. But the U.S. Senator from Vermont says much work still needs to be done.
"It distresses me very much to hear that we hear today and to know all that we know that this city is still struggling with institutional racism and with failing public schools. One would have hoped that with an over 50 plus year career that things would have changed a little bit more. "
Sanders met Saturday with civil rights leaders in Chicago, including with the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. Sanders is trying to generate more support from African-American voters with not much time left before Tuesday’s Illinois primary.
