PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - Peoria sculptor Nita Sunderland has donated part of her personal artwork collection to the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
The donation includes 18 pieces of Sunderland's work including sculptures, drawings and a painting. It also includes eleven works by other artists.

Museum curator Kristan McKinsey calls Sunderland a trailblazer. She says the artist made the donation in November, "anything I thought would help fill out our collection at the Riverfront Museum."

The museum plans an exhibit of a portion of the works called "Figures of Strength: The Artworks by Sculptor Nita Sunderland" to run from April 2 through July 10.

Sunderland lives in East Peoria. She taught sculpture at Bradley University from 1956 to 1988.
