Owners of John Deere farm equipment will have greater access to "digital agriculture." It announced an agreement today with a San Francisco-based software company, The Climate Corporation. The Climate Corporation is a subsidiary of Monsanto.
Climate senior vice president, John Raines, says farmers will be able to upload data "from the cab" wirelessly as they plant or harvest, and have it analyzed to increase their productivity.
The new agreement gives Climate Corporation exclusive access to data from farmers using Deere equipment.
In addition, Deere will buy the equipment maker, Precision Planting LLC, a subsidiary of Climate. That follows the announcement Monday that Deere plans to buy the leading maker of precision planters in Europe.
