Rauner, Emanuel feud over budget, unions reaches new level

A public spat between Gov. Bruce Rauner and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel over the state budget impasse, city finances and labor unions has hit a new level.

After Rauner's office criticized a recent Chicago tax hike, Emanuel said the Republican governor should "stop name-calling and just do your job."

Rauner responded by buying frozen tuna during a press event at a local market and saying he would send the Chicago Democrat some "dead fish." It's a reference to a famous tale of Emanuel sending a political rival a dead fish.

The two have previously worked and vacationed together and described themselves as friends.

Rauner says Emanuel should support his efforts to let local communities opt out of collective bargaining. Emanuel says curbing union power will hurt working people.
