That's just... Genius

Writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda are among 24 figures from the worlds of art and science who have received "genius grants" this year from the Chicago-based John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The recipients each get $625,000 over five years to spend any way they like, no strings attached. The 2015 award winners represent a variety of fields from puppetry to human evolution. They were cited for expanding understanding of everything from the workings of the brain to tap dancing to the devastating experience of being evicted. Recipients say the grants are a validation of their work and of others in their fields.
