Board recommends Chicago officer who killed woman be fired

A review board that examines allegations of misconduct by police officers has recommended a Chicago officer who shot and killed an unarmed woman in 2012 be fired.

The Independent Police Review Authority recommends that Officer Dante Servin be removed from the department.

Servin shot and killed 22-year-old Rekia Boyd when he fired into a group of people because he said he believed one of them had a gun. No gun was found

Servin was charged with involuntary manslaughter by a judge who ruled the officer was improperly charged and hinted he should have been charged with murder.

Superintendent Garry McCarthy will review the recommendation.
