The head of Chicago Public Schools has recommended the district spend more than $900,000 to hire five senior level employees.
It's a move that comes after CEO Forrest Claypool said he cut expenses and laid off nine senior aides to save the cash-strapped district $1 million annually.
District officials defended the hirings, saying the expertise is needed. Claypool has already hired three others, making more than $1.2 million in senior level hires.
