Despite funding woes, Rauner pushes ahead with State Fair

Governor Bruce Rauner’s office says that, budget or no budget, the Illinois State Fair will take place next month.  House Speaker Michael Madigan says the administration gave up the legal power to spend money on the fair. The governor vetoed most of the budget approved by the legislature -- including the funding for the event.

“He chose to do an outright veto. Which means today there is no budget and there is no spending authority.”

But the Department of Agriculture, which oversees the fair, is moving ahead with its plans. The fair begins in Springfield August 13th.  Rauner’s office says that some fair vendors may not get paid on time.
