Justice laments Rauner characterization of Supreme Court

Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke says it's "regrettable" Gov. Bruce Rauner has characterized the high court as untrustworthy and part of a "corrupt system."

After a speech in Chicago on Tuesday, Burke said her colleagues are outstanding legal educators. She also said the justices are "good people, honest, moral and ethical."

Rauner took aim at the court in April, while speaking to the editorial board of the Daily Herald in Arlington Heights. At the time, Rauner said he didn't trust the court to be "rational in their decisions." He went on to say he thinks the court is filled with "activist judges who want to be legislators."

When asked by the newspaper if he believed the state's high court is part of a "corrupt" system, Rauner said: "Yes."
