CHICAGO (AP) - The staff of Get Covered Illinois is being cut due to a drop in federal funds being directed at the health insurance exchange.
More than a dozen members of the staff were notified Wednesday their positions will be eliminated at the end of the month. Only three people in leadership roles will remain, including executive director Karin Zosel, who was hired in March.
In a statement, marketing officer Jose Munoz said the insurance exchange will operate as a state partnership model. He added a call center continues to be available 6 days a week to assist with enrollment questions and the connection of consumers with enrollment specialists. Enrollment on the Illinois exchange increased by 60 percent in its second year to 349,467 people.
