Hastert's lawyer is a DC-based defense attorney

A court filing in the case of former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert names a prominent Washington, D.C.-based attorney as the Illinois Republican's lawyer. White-collar attorney Thomas C. Green was listed as Hastert's lawyer Monday in a filing in Chicago federal court. The first court appearance on banking charges by the 73-year-old Hastert is scheduled for Tuesday. It wasn't known whether he had an attorney until Monday. Green practices with the global law firm Sidley Austin and his past clients range from U.S. senators to CEOs. A May 28 indictment alleged that Hastert agreed to pay $3.5 million to ensure someone from the town where he taught and coached high school wrestling stayed quiet about "prior misconduct." Green confirmed in an email he is Hastert's attorney.
