Canoeist who drowned going after cat in Illinois lake IDed

Police have identified a man who drowned in a northern Illinois lake while trying to save a cat.  The Lake County Sheriff's Office identified the man as 46-year-old William Anderson of Ingleside.

The death occurred Sunday night on Loon Lake in Antioch, about 50 miles north of Chicago.

Anderson, two friends and the cat were in a canoe in about 35 feet of water, more than 200 feet from shore. When the cat jumped into the water, Anderson went in after it, capsizing the canoe, and all three people went into the water.

A nearby pontoon boat rescued Anderson's two friends and the cat.  Sheriff's officials say Anderson's body was recovered early Monday.
