Kirk says Obama needs stronger sanctions against Iran

Illinois U.S. Senator Mark Kirk wants President Barack Obama to introduce stronger sanctions against Iran.  The House approved a new bill yesterday which gives lawmakers the power to review and potentially reject a nuclear deal with Iran.

Meanwhile, the U.S. and five other nations are currently trying to reach a deal to curb Iran’s nuclear program before their government officials return to Tehran on June 31st.

But Kirk doesn’t think talks with Iran will go anywhere.

“I do not think that an agreement is going to be signed. The regime is absolutely dependent on a crisis atmosphere with the West, it needs to keep on generating crisis feelings - this is the regime that we’re dealing with.”

The president has said he’s willing to sign the bill giving Congress the power to trump agreements made at the bargaining table.
