The coordinator of the Illinois medical marijuana pilot program is stepping down May 6 to go into private law practice.
Catherine Kelly, a spokeswoman for Gov. Bruce Rauner, confirmed Thursday that Bob Morgan is leaving state government.
Morgan, who is currently on paternity leave, says it's been "an incredible honor" to lead the state's medical cannabis program. His statement thanks former Gov. Pat Quinn for appointing him and Rauner for retaining him in the position.
Morgan says he plans to continue "advocating for Illinois patients with debilitating medical conditions." He says he has "confidence in the long-term success of the pilot program."
The Rauner administration hasn't announced a replacement for Morgan.
