Budget cuts cancel grants to social services

Governor Bruce Rauner's decision to cancel grants to some social services has upset advocates.  The move is being done to help close a budget gap.

Among those losing money for the remainder of the fiscal year is The Autism Project, which helps families of kids diagnosed with the condition.  Whitney Rikasis the mother of two children in the program.  She says Governor Rauner's cuts will have a huge impact.

"He needs to come here and look at these children and tell them that this program is not going to be here for them anymore."

The Governor's office says it worked with the Departments of Human Services and Public Health to prioritize spending and determine which grants could be temporarily cut.
