An Illinois state senator has introduced legislation that would establish teams of medical professionals at high schools throughout the state to deal with sports concussions.
The measure also would take the decision about when a player can return to a game away from the coaches.
State Sen. Dan Kotowski's bill would cover all high school sports. It would require doctors to clear students to play and require parents to sign consent forms after their children are treated.
The Park Ridge Democrat says he filed the bill out of concern that injured students are returning to games too soon.
Kurt Gibson of the Illinois High School Association says much of what is in the bill is already established IHSA policy.
