The proposed IllianaTollway has its critics but Indiana’s governor is not one of them. It’s been called a “boondoggle” by some who see spending more than a billion dollars on the IllianaTollway as a waste of money.
The 47 mile toll way would run east to west from I-55 near Wilmington to I-65 near Lowell, Indiana. Environmental activists say the proposed route cuts through nature preserves and farmland. But Indiana Governor Mike Pence says his state is committed to the highway even if Illinois is still debating it.
"We’ll leave it to policymakers here in Illinois and your new governor to sort through that. But if he asks you on the street what did Pence say about Illiana, tell him Indiana is ready to go."
Pence spoke on Tuesday before the City Club of Chicago. Last week, the Federal Highway Administration approved the IllianaTollway plan.
