Governor Pat Quinn has appointed the former director of the state’s veteran’s affairs department to run the Illinois Department of Transportation. The former head of IDOT resigned Monday following allegations of patronage hiring.
A complaint was filed recently in federal court over hiring practices at IDOT. Quinn Tuesday also addressed a recent Chicago Sun-Times article saying the director’s step-daughter had been hired and given a promotion at the agency.
"Well, I read that in the paper. I wasn’t happy to read it. And, you know, things happen. And I wanted to make sure that when I read about that and it was looked into and we’ve acted accordingly."
Erica Borggren will lead the roads and bridges agency which has a budget of nearly 3-billion dollar.
