There's an area in west-central Illinois that's often called a "living museum." The Dickson Mounds Indian burial grounds are familiar attractions to many.
Now, visitors to the area can look out from the mounds and see virtually the same landscape that Native Americans encountered a thousand years ago. That's thanks to a conservation effort that's restored the area's lakes, wetlands and prairie to their original grandeur. Illinois Public Radio's Judy Valente has the story.
Saturday from one to three p.m., the Dickson Mounds Museum will hold a mother-daughter class on beading and weaving as a way of celebrating the ancient arts of the Native Americans who once inhabited the Illinois River Valley.
