Study: Illinois debt is ‘toxic’, taxpayers paying to cover costs

You probably know that Illinois has fiscal challenges. But a new study shows the problems are proving more costly than many realize.  Martin Luby is a DePaul professor who is a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois. Luby talked about his research with Illinois Public Radio's Sean Crawford. He says the study shows Illinois taxpayers are having to pay more to cover the cost of borrowing because investors view the state's debt as "toxic.
