Illinois lawmakers are forming a task force to study what they say is an "epidemic" heroin problem. DuPage County -- among the wealthiest in Illinois -- last year had a record 46 deaths related to the drug. But state Representative Dennis Reboletti, a Republican from Elmhurst, warns that "task forces" often have a hard time staying on task.
"I've been assigned to a task force about heroin that hasn't met yet -- and I wish it would -- regarding education and issues of heroin within schools."
Reboletti and other lawmakers last week proposed legislation they say would address the problem, creating a "last chance" treatment facility and increasing public education about the drug.
