A representative with State Farm says the insurer received around 3,700 storm-related homeowners claims and 1,500 to 1,700 auto claims across Illinois. Kelly Dale visited the Champaign county town of Gifford Thursday helping residents begin the claims process and access money for food, shelter and repairs.

Dale says a large percentage of the property claims from Sunday’s storms are for total losses. He cautions residents to stay alert for scams and advises clients to always consult with local agents before paying for services.
