Job Gains Push Greater Peoria Unemployment Rate Lower

Creative Commons

Greater Peoria’s unemployment rate is down.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security’s June jobs report shows the metropolitan area’s non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 4.1 percent. That’s down more than a full percentage point from the same month in 2018.
Unemployment within the city of Peoria is 4.8 percent, 1.2 percent less than June 2018.
The year-over-year June numbers show 4000 jobs were added in greater Peoria. Gains were noted in business and professional services, education and health services and transportation. Jobs were also added in the construction, government and warehousing and utilities sectors. Retail trade posted declining employment.
The current statewide, non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 4 percent. Officials say unemployment rates fell across all 14 of the state’s metropolitan areas last month.
