City Council Moves Ahead to Fill Vacant Seat

Peoria Public Radio

The deadline to replace former Peoria councilman Ryan Spain is quickly approaching.  Council members met in executive session Thurs. to pare down the number of candidates.

City manager Patrick Urich says there were originally 15 residents who applied for the council seat.

"The council is really just focusing on those candidates that are not candidates in the upcoming municipal election so they are looking at the 12 individuals who are not going to be candidates in the spring," Urich said.

The 60-day limit on making the appointment is in mid-January, so Urich says the council may have to call a special meeting to meet that deadline. Ryan Spain resigned his council seat in November after his election to the Illinois House of Representatives.
