Ill. Report Card Offers Glimpse of PPS' Challenges

The annual state school report cards are out. Here's what the data reveals about Peoria Public Schools in the 2015-2106 school year.

  • 16 percent of students in Peoria Public Schools met or exceeded grade level standards on the PARCC math and English language arts composite test scores. That’s more than half of the statewide figure, 34 percent of students statewide.
  • 32 percent of Peoria Public School students earned 21 or higher on the ACT. That’s an 8 percent increase, compared to the year before.
  • But the District 150 dropout rate was five-and-a-half percent last year. That’s a 3.5 percent increase compared to the 2014-15 school year. The region’s largest urban school district also saw a more than 370 student population decrease year over year.

Peoria Public Schools Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat says She believes the strategic plan the district adopted last year will bring significant gains on this year and future report cards. But She says much more growth is necessary.
